Card Night 11-Mar-2008

Jackpot was decimated so badly last week, that tonight jackpot actually increased despite the fact that three people won it.

Warren got $5.00 for his four 9s, Mark DeVol $3.25 for his four aces, and Bill $2.25 for his four 7s. Since these payouts happened relatively early in the night, jackpot actually increased from $9.00 to $14.00.

(Bill’s $2.25 win isn’t the lowest jackpot payout ever. That distinction belongs to the $1.50 payout Mike Stefanidis received in April 2006.)

There seemed to be a lot of wheels in Omaha Hi-Lo tonight. On one hand, it was checked around to Mark Huyser on the button after the river was revealed. He checked as well, then turned over the wheel to scoop the pot.

When asked why he didn’t bet, Mark said, “I don’t come to Cards to win money. I come to have fun.”

“If that’s the case,” asked Mark DeVol, “why don’t you come every week?”

Mike answered for him. “Because it’s rarely fun.”

During a hand of Pass the Buck Hi-Lo (with down-cards wild), Mark DeVol kept a king that was passed to him, making it fairly obvious he had a king in the hole. Mark bet, and only Warren and Mark Huyser called. When Mark D was dealt another king, Warren and Mark H stubbornly called again! Mark D went on to receive an ace and a 5, giving him what surely was four-of-a-kind aces and the wheel. Mark H finally folded, but Warren stuck it out all the way to the buy-card round, inadvertently throwing away the wrong card to try for his straight flush. Turns out he wouldn’t have made his hand anyway, and Mark D did indeed scoop with a king down.

Mark D +$30.00
Mark H +$37.00
Paul ‑$16.00
Warren ‑$43.00
Bill +$20.00
Lyndon ‑$21.00
Mike S ‑$12.00
