Card Night 30-Sep-2008

Jason’s friend Rand joined us tonight.

Rand got a rude introduction to hi-lo declare games when he inadvertently went low with pocket kings in Texas Hold ’em Hi-Lo Declare.  Mary and Jason were the only other players in at the end, and everyone declared low.   Jason scooped.  Rand tried to plead his case by showing his kings, but his good friend Jason stood by the rule from the Card Night Poker Games page: The number of chips in a player’s hand will determine which way the player is going, even if he made a mistake and obviously intended to go a different way.

Mark D ‑$14.00
Mary ‑$87.00
Paul +$5.00
Rand ‑$1.00
John +$74.00
Jason +$30.00
Mike S ‑$24.00

Card Night 23-Sep-2008

It’s still hard to fill up the poker table, even though we’ve introduced several new players over the past few months.  (Troy and Violet were very good about showing up regularly, but they’re gone now.)  Tonight, we had just six players.

Mike kept getting outdrawn on the river, making big dents in his bankroll and in his mood.  At one point he announced, “This is my last Card Night of the year.”  Hopefully that’s not true.  He did leave early after losing $62.00.

As soon as he left, Mark DeVol said, “Yeah, Mike’s having a bad year.  He’s down around $400.00.”

Mary responded, “He’s having a bad year?  What about me?!”

It’s true; Mary’s year is going much worse.  She just seems to handle it better.

Jason hit his first jackpot ever on a hand of Omaha High Only: Four 8s for $25.00

Mark D +$13.00
Mary ‑$59.00
Paul +$17.00
Lyndon +$55.00
Jason +$39.00
Mike S ‑$62.00

Card Night 16-Sep-2008

A new player Glen joined us just as we were saying goodbye to Troy and Violet.  Welcome Glen!  And good luck Troy and Violet; be safe!

Glen had a profitable debut winning $28.00, making him the big winner for the night.  A good chunk of that came when he scooped an Omaha Hi-Lo kill hand where he turned a full house, 9s full of 3s.

Paul got stuck for $60.00 early but made a reasonable comeback to only lose $14.00 for the night.  However, during his streak of bad luck, he complained, “How come I never hit my draws?!”  Amazingly, he wasn’t trying to be ironic.

Mark D +$17.00
Mary ‑$37.00
Paul ‑$14.00
Lyndon +$18.00
Troy ‑$12.00
Violet ‑$15.00
Glen +$28.00

Card Night 09-Sep-2008

Tonight was Mark DeVol’s wedding anniversary, and yet he still hosted Card Night.  Is he insane?  Possibly.  But it turned out to be a good poker decision.  On a hand of Happy Pineapple, he made a king-high straight flush to take down the biggest jackpot in over four years: $57.00.  (Jason was unfortunate to make an ace-high flush on the same hand.)

Violet also won jackpot tonight, her first ever.  She hit four 10s in Omaha Hi-Lo for a payoff of $11.25.  (She didn’t get much action during the actual play of the hand, however, as the flop was all high, making low impossible.)

Mark D +$93.00
Paul ‑$44.00
Warren ‑$46.00
Bill ‑$27.00
Lyndon +$25.00
Jason ‑$46.00
Troy +$53.00
Violet +$45.00

Card Night 02-Sep-2008

A lot of abuse being heaped on tonight.  A lot of abuse.

Violet called Follow the Queen twice tonight (with queens always wild).  On the final up-card round, a queen came up right before an ace, making aces wild.  Troy had A-Q-A-7 showing.  (Needless to say, he won.)

On one hand of Omaha, the flop was A-3-A.  Troy had flopped top full house with his A-3, Violet had flopped bottom full house with her 3-3.  Jason ended up winning the pot from both of them when a 10 came on the river to fill up his A-10.  (Jason had a big night: +$122.00)

Mark D ‑$6.00
Paul +$39.00
Bill ‑$80.00
Jason +$122.00
Troy +$3.00
Violet ‑$60.00
Mike S ‑$35.00
