Card Night 23-Dec-2014

The December “goofy” game tonight was Super Crazy Pineapple.  Players receive four cards to start.  Each player discards one card after the betting round on the flop, and then discards another card after the betting round on the turn.  The game continues like Texas Hold ’em.

We played it hi-lo declare (Super Happy Pineapple), and it went over very well.

Mary had the misfortune of arriving to Card Night in the middle of a BRUTAL game of Bloody Boy.  She was immediately dealt a straight flush (without having to draw any cards) only to run into Miguel’s dealt royal flush (without having to draw any cards).  A few hands later, Mary had lost $200.00 on that single game of Bloody Boy.  She finished the night recording her worst Card Night ever.

No Card Night next week, so tonight was the last meet-up for 2014.

Bill’s final total for the year (+1,438.00) would have broken the single-year record for a player if it hadn’t been for Mark DeVol’s huge 2014 run: +$2,135.00.

And the night ended perfectly for Chris as he went runner runner in Omaha Hi-Lo to make quad 7s on the very last hand of the year.

Ty ‑$6.00
Mark D +$120.00
Mary ‑$290.00
Bill ‑$10.00
Chris +$74.00
Jeff ‑$64.00
Jason +$129.00
Miguel +$53.00

Jackpot is now $7.00.

Card Night 16-Dec-2014

Mark DeVol’s “goofy” game tonight was $3-$6 Baseball.  For this version, players had to pay $3.00 to make exposed 3s wild.  They also had to pay $3.00 to get an extra card when they had a 4.  The pots, as well as the hands, were big.

Speaking of Mark, he made Card Night history tonight when he broke the $2,000.00 barrier for year-to-date winnings.

Mark D +$45.00
Mary +$31.00
Bill +$147.00
Chris +$25.00
Jeff +$5.00
Jason ‑$212.00
Glen ‑$41.00

Jackpot is now $13.00.

Card Night 09-Dec-2014

Mark DeVol called two “goofy” December games tonight.

The first was Oma-draw.  It plays like Omaha Hi-Lo, but after the initial betting round, players can draw up to four cards for a fee.  We played the game twice.  The first time we charged $1.00 for each card drawn, but that seemed too low because players were drawing only one or two cards.  So the second time we charged $2.00 a card.  The game played well.  (In many cases, players drew no cards.)

The second game was Red Dog (not to be confused with the casino game Red Dog).  Players anted $2.00 each and were dealt four cards down.  In turn, each player was given the option of betting anywhere from 25 cents to the entire pot that one of his four cards would be the same suit and higher than the next card off the deck.  The game didn’t play very well, with players only risking 25 or 50 cents.  Finally Mary, tired of the game, bet the entire pot and won when her queen of diamonds beat the eight of diamonds off the deck.

Speaking of Mary, her night did not go well.  She lost $264.00, a new personal record.  (Previously her worst night had been 28-Mar-2013 when she lost $258.00.)

Mark D +$118.00
Mary ‑$264.00
Bill +$39.00
Chris +$16.00
Jeff ‑$30.00
Jason +$142.00
Glen ‑$16.00

Jackpot is now $13.00.

Card Night 02-Dec-2014

It’s December, and that means Mark DeVol calls “goofy” games.

crisscrossTonight’s game was Big Nuts (aka Criss-Cross Omaha Hi-Lo) and was suggested by one of the You Can Bet on That listeners.  It plays like Omaha Hi-Lo, except the five cards on the board are arranged to make a cross.  Players make their hands by using exactly two of their down cards, and three cards from the horizontal line on the board or three cards from the vertical line on the board.

We realized early on that the winning hands in this game were much lower than the winning hands in Omaha Hi-Lo, due to the restrictions on which cards from the board players could use.  (Also, low qualified much less.  In eight deals, low only qualified once.)

We never really got a sense of what was a good starting hand.  Maybe high cards that were coordinated?

Anyway, the game was moderately well-received.

Mark D +$90.00
Mary ‑$28.00
Bill ‑$66.00
Chris +$87.00
Jeff ‑$2.00
Lyndon ‑$67.00
Jason ‑$36.00
Glen +$45.00

Jackpot is now $18.00.
