Card Night 27-Jan-2011

During a hand of Stud 8, it came down to Mary and Glen.  After the final betting round, Glen announced he had a flush.

What he failed to announce was that he also had a 6-high for low.

But what he really failed to announce was that he also had a 6-high straight flush for a jackpot win.

“I didn’t even see it,” said Glen.

Maybe that’s why Glen never wins jackpot.

Mike Stefanidis told everyone that he doesn’t come to Card Night to win; he comes to Card Night for the action.

Despite that, Mike chose to leave early after losing a big Omaha Hi-Lo pot.  It’s the second time this month Mike has left Card Night early.

Mike and Jeff tied for losing the most tonight ($74.00).  It’s the third time in recorded Card Night history that two people tied for the biggest loss of the night.  (Phil and Glen both lost $60.00 on 08-Jun-2010.  Warren and Jason both lost $46.00 on 09-Sep-2008.)

Coincidentally, three is also the number of times two people have tied for the biggest win of the night.  (Mark DeVol and Paul both won $28.00 on 12-Jun-2007.  Mark and Mike both won $58.00 on 15-Nov-2005.  Paul and Mike both won $34.00 on 19-Apr-2005.)

Mark D +$1.00
Mary ‑$14.00
Paul +$47.00
Phil ‑$24.00
Jeff ‑$74.00
Miguel +$78.00
Mike S ‑$74.00
Glen +$67.00

Card Night 20-Jan-2011

Jason has attended two Card Nights in 2011, and he’s been the big winner both times.  He’s the current 2011 leader, up $160.00.

Jason’s win tonight was aided by a hand of Four-Three where he went runner-runner to make a wheel and scoop.

Just like last year at this time, we had the Australian Open on in the background.  And just like last year, Victoria Azarenka “entertained” us with her banshee-like shrieking on the court.

We contributed $22.00 to jackpot tonight, tying a Card Night record.  The high jackpot contribution is probably due to games like Four-Three  and Razz being played.  Both games play quickly, and they’re hard to win jackpot in (especially Razz).

Mark D +$40.00
Mary ‑$122.00
Paul ‑$39.00
Phil +$31.00
Jeff ‑$82.00
Jason +$76.00
Mike S +$74.00

Card Night 13-Jan-2011

We played some poker tonight.  Some Hold ’em, some Omaha, some Stud 8, even some Razz.

Yet despite all that poker, people’s fortunes were basically won and lost on a little game called Four-Three.  (“But wait,” you may say, “Four-Three is poker too!”  Well, sure, we use poker hands to determine the winners and losers.  But Four-Three plays less like poker and more like just flipping a coin.)

Mike Stefanidis called a round of Four-Three, and he bore most of the brunt.  Of the consecutive $60.00 pots he lost, the final one was especially painful.  Mike declared that he would play, and everyone folded to Jeff.  Jeff didn’t like his hand, but said he would play only because he was on the button and he’d be heads-up with Mike and very likely to split the pot.

Jeff ended up scooping.

Mike lost $165.00 tonight, exactly matching his worst Card Night ever on 30-Dec-2001.

Four jackpots were paid out tonight, the first time that’s happened since 24-Aug-2010.  And just like that night back in August, the jackpot carry-over is very small.  ($3.00 tonight, $2.00 back in August.  $2.00 was a record low carry-over.)

Bill got off to a good start trying to put his terrible 2010 behind him by winning $49.00 tonight.

Mark D ‑$68.00
Mary ‑$35.00
Paul ‑$59.00
Phil +$130.00
Bill +$49.00
Jeff +$68.00
Mike S ‑$165.00
Glen +$96.00
