Card Night 29-Sep-2011

Chris Cosenza and Scott Long, publishers of Ante Up Magazine, were in San Diego this week visiting the local poker rooms, so we invited them to Card Night.  (Mark DeVol even had lunch with them Thursday afternoon to invite them in person.)  But unfortunately their evening went long, and at about 8:30 p.m., Scott called to say they wouldn’t be able to make it.

Maybe next time!

We borrowed an oblong poker table (that seats ten) from Mike Stefanidis just in case Chris and Scott showed up.  We didn’t much care for the table; if you were at one of the far ends it was hard to deal and hard to see the community cards.  We ended up having Mark sit at the center of the table and deal all the games for us.

Jackpot is at $127.00.  Don’t fold any pocket pairs!

Mark D ‑$23.00
Mary ‑$113.00
Paul +$64.00
Phil ‑$16.00
Bill ‑$13.00
Jeff +$24.00
Mike S +$37.00
Glen +$23.00

Jackpot is now $127.00.

Card Night 22-Sep-2011

When the deal got around to Bill, he called Buck ’em (two legs to win, one joker in the deck).

On the very first round, everyone passed to Bill on the button, and he declared low.  No one checked him off, so he got a leg.

It looked like it was going to be a typical Buck ’em game.  Bill had gotten a leg early by being in position, and now he was poised to win the whole game.

Oh, my, that’s not how it played out.

When the pot got to $20.25, Mary and Bill checked each other off on the first two rounds, and Mary won both times.

Then when the pot was at $27.00, Bill went in for high on the five-cards-out-of-seven round, and both Mark DeVol and Glen checked him off.  Bill had a flush; both Mark and Glen had full houses.

Finally, Mary won the game.

Counting all his antes, Bill lost over $100.00 on that single game of Buck ’em, contributing to his worst Card Night ever: -$227.00.  It’s the second worst Card Night in the history of our game.  (Phil set the record for worst Card Night of all time when he lost $262.00 on 27-Jul-2010.)

After that game of Buck ’em, Mary decided to keep the joker in the deck and deal Omaha Hi-Lo.  (Just as in Buck ’em, the joker could be used as an ace, or to complete a straight, a flush, or a straight flush for high; for low, the joker was completely wild.)  And following that, Paul kept the joker in the deck for a round of Texas Hold ’em Hi-Lo Declare.

The joker made for some interesting hands, especially when it would show up on the board.

Paul said he likes Razz.

Mark D +$106.00
Mary ‑$118.00
Paul +$77.00
Bill ‑$227.00
Jeff +$168.00
Miguel ‑$41.00
Glen +$17.00

Jackpot is now $110.00.

Card Night 13-Sep-2011

Mike Stefanidis is always complaining about the way in which people buy more chips.  He says that it’s stupid for them to re-buy for just $20.00.  That’s not enough.  He feels that they should at least buy in for $40.00 based on the stakes we play for.

Tonight, Mike re-bought for $5.00.  And moments later, he re-bought for another $5.00.  Finally, he re-bought for $1.00 so he’d be able to post his big blind before he left Card Night early.

Mark D +$51.00
Mary ‑$56.00
Paul +$90.00
Bill +$52.00
Jeff ‑$23.00
Mike S ‑$111.00
Glen ‑$22.00

Jackpot is now $92.00.

Card Night 01-Sep-2011

After the river was dealt on a hand of Omaha Hi-Lo, only Paul and Mike Stefanidis were left.

Mike bet, and Paul asked, “Do you have a straight?”

Mike said “Yes,” and Paul mucked his hand, showing the table trip 9s.

Mike turned over his hand.  He had no straight!  He only had a low.

Mike never lies!  Except apparently this one time.

Mike scooped the pot.

On a single hand of 2-7 Triple Draw, Mike and Mark DeVol were each dealt a full house.

Mark D +$10.00
Paul ‑$9.00
Jeff +$77.00
Marc P ‑$99.00
Mike S ‑$48.00
Glen +$49.00
