Card Night 26-Jan-2016

Only five players tonight, so that meant a lot of different games.  Which meant a lot of money contributed to jackpot: $22.00.  That’s the most we’ve contributed in a single night in over a year.

Since there were so many games played, we mixed it up with a round of Roll Your Own.  We played it hi-lo declare with an optional single-card draw at the end for two dollars.

Three Bingos tonight during Bingo.  Bill scooped twice, while Mary scooped once.

However Bill’s two scoops weren’t enough to get him a winning night.  He was the big loser, and he’s uncharacteristically off to a bad start for the year, down $395.00.

There was talk about how last week Jerry had broken the Curse of Warren’s Chair with his big win.

Whenever Warren came to play at Mark DeVol’s house, he always sat in the chair closest to the Pooyan video game machine.  It was the easiest chair for him to get in and out of.  As time went on, that chair got a reputation for being a “losing” chair.  It seemed like whoever sat there was more likely to lose.  It became known as the Curse of Warren’s Chair.

Is there any truth to this legend?  For six years, we’ve actually been keeping stats on how much players win or lose depending on what seat they’re in.  Here are the results.  (Warren’s Chair is designated Seat 1 in the diagram.)

Card Night 05-Jan-2016

Usually it’s Bill that gets off to a huge start at the beginning of the year.  But tonight it was all about Jerry.  He had his best night ever, taking home $296.00.

Hmm.  He’s on pace to win over $15,000.00 this year.

On the final board of a hand of Bingo tonight, all ten cards were a different rank (see below).  “What are the chances?!” we all thought.

As it turns out, the chances are much better than you’d think.  You’ll end up with a board of ten unique ranks about 1 in every 53 games.
