And, although Glen lost for the night, he now moves into first place for 2011 thanks to Bill’s loss.

Jackpot is a-growin’ again!  It now stands at $109.00.

Card Night 24-Mar-2011

Jeff introduced a new game called Olestra.  It plays like Omaha, with the following twists:

  • It is hi-lo declare, meaning that the 8-high qualification for low does not exist.
  • Following each betting round (before the flop, turn, and river are dealt), each player must turn one of his hole cards up.

So just before showdown, and before players declare which way they’re going, players can see three of the four hole cards of each of their opponents.

It was a pretty interesting game.  It was much easier to eliminate opponents’ possible hands than traditional Omaha.

Says Jeff:

“Olestra.  Everything comes out.”

Glen had his second best Card Night ever, winning $134.00.

For the third week in a row, no one won jackpot.  It now stands at $88.00.

Mark D +$17.00
Mark H ‑$57.00
Paul +$15.00
Phil ‑$82.00
Jeff ‑$48.00
Glen +$134.00

Card Night 16-Mar-2011

Surprise, surprise!  The shadowy figure following Mary into the room was none other than long-lost Frank!  Then, a few minutes later, Mark Huyser came sauntering in!

Mark hasn’t played since April 2009.

And Frank hasn’t played since November 2006!  He missed 213 consecutive Card Nights between then and now, a new Card Night record for “Longest streak of missed Card Nights between attended Card Nights”.

With nine players and our new affinity for $2-$4 games, the pots got quite large, as is evident by the final results for the night.  Still, our old favorite Four-Three provided most of the entertainment.

On one hand, Paul decided to play with 7-7-5-5, a pretty good starting hand because he already had a high, and he could also potentially make a good low.  Paul was particularly pleased when it turned out he’d be heads up.  However, he wasn’t thrilled when his opponent Mary turned over four clubs.  Her chances of scooping were also good.  Mary ended up making her flush along with a jack-high for low.  Paul didn’t improve on his high and drew a king, forcing him to play king-high for low.  Mary scooped a pot of over $35.00.

Mark had never played the game before, and it was a rather rude introduction.  He lost a heads-up match, much like his brother.  But luckily for him, he later split a pot when everyone convinced him he should stay when it was folded around to just him and another player.

Bill still hasn’t lost in 2011 and remains atop this year’s leader board.  And Jeff had another huge night, propelling him into second place on the year.

We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day early thanks to Frank and Mary who brought a bottle of Tullamore Dew, a smooth and malty Irish whiskey.

We also picked our teams for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, the results of which you can see here.

Mark D ‑$35.00
Frank ‑$31.00
Mary ‑$29.00
Mark H ‑$85.00
Paul ‑$96.00
Phil +$66.00
Bill +$68.00
Jeff +$151.00
Glen ‑$23.00

Card Night 10-Mar-2011

Between hands of Omaha Hi-Lo, John blurted out, “Holy Mother of God.”  The comment was seemingly without context, and it sent the table into a laughing frenzy.  Paul was unfortunately in the middle of a swig of his bottled tea when this all happened, and he spent the next few minutes gagging and dry heaving into the sink.

Mark D +$21.00
Mary +$31.00
Paul +$19.00
Jeff ‑$54.00
John ‑$63.00
Miguel +$60.00
Glen ‑$33.00

Card Night 03-Mar-2011

Bill continues his winning 2011.  He hasn’t lost yet.  Tonight he pulled down $71.00, bringing his 2011-leading total to +$266.00.

Mark DeVol intended to go low on a hand of Texas Hold ’em Hi-Lo Declare, but he accidentally put two chips in his fist instead of one.  Paul and Mary also declared high, and Mary ended up scooping the pot.

A Buck ’em pot got up to around $80.00 before Paul finally won it.

We finished the evening with Two-handed, Three-card, Low-ball Guts, a game we used to play nearly every week, but that we haven’t played in some time.

Mark D ‑$40.00
Mary ‑$99.00
Paul +$62.00
Phil ‑$133.00
Bill +$71.00
Jeff +$114.00
Glen +$24.00
