Card Night 25-Aug-2011

New player Marc Phillips joined us for the first time tonight, but unfortunately it was a difficult debut for him.  The culprits, not surprisingly, were Four-Three and Buck ’em.

In Four-Three, Marc’s initial 8-high couldn’t manage to take the high nor the low.

Then in Buck ’em, Marc got caught trying to get a leg by going high on the two-cards-out-of-three round when he ran into Glen’s pair of aces.

But Marc’s a good player.  We expect to see him back at the table recording some big wins.

Glen took a brutal beating on the five-cards-out-of-six round of Buck ’em when his 6-5-3-2-A lost to Mary’s 6-4-3-2-A for low.  He lost $44.50.  But it was offset by the $44.50 he won from Marc earlier in the hand (as mentioned above).

Paul was convinced that his “slight” inebriation was responsible for his big win tonight.

Card Night 18-Aug-2011

Just three weeks after posting her best Card Night ever, tonight Mary suffered her worst Card Night ever: -$217.00.  It’s the second worst single Card Night posted by any player.  (Phil set the record for worst Card Night of all time when he lost $262.00 on 27-Jul-2010.  The only other $200+ loss was when Paul lost $215.00 on 28-Jan-2002.)

In addition Mary was the only losing player tonight.  It’s the seventh time in recorded Card Night history that there was only a single losing player for the night, but it’s the first time that there was a single losing player on a table with seven or more players.

Mike Stefanidis would have been a loser as well had he not hit a queen-high straight flush on a hand of Omaha to take down a near-record jackpot payout of $85.00.  (Paul set the record for biggest jackpot win when he took down $85.55 with a straight flush on 08-Jun-2004.)  Mike was in for $120.00 and was bemoaning his “bad luck” before he hit his big hand.  After that his mood perked up considerably.

Phil posted his second $100+ win a row, the first time he’s ever done that.  In addition, it was the third attended Card Night in a row that Phil was the big winner for the night, also a first for him.

Card Night 11-Aug-2011

It looked like we were going to have a full table tonight… but three people dropped out (two at the last minute), and we ended up with only five players.

With only five players, hands were dealt very quickly, and we ended up contributing $23.00 to jackpot (a new Card Night record).  Jackpot is now $101.00.

Phil recorded his second best Card Night ever, taking home a $134.00 win.  (His best night was on 16-Mar-2010 when he won $150.00.)

Miguel had his worst Card Night ever (-$82.00) thanks in no small part to a hand of $2-$4 Ty’s 7s.  His hole cards were A-7-x, normally a good starting hand; however Phil had A-7-7 down and ended up beating Miguel’s full house with four aces.

Card Night 04-Aug-2011

No particularly interesting stories tonight, so here are just some random facts:

• Despite losing to two players on a two-cards-out-of three round of Buck ’em, Glen won for the night.
• Paul won tonight, but he’s still the big loser for the year.
• Phil missed his fourth Card Night in a row, the most he’s missed in a row since he started attending regularly again in January 2009.
• Mike left at around 9:45 p.m.
