Card Night 28-Aug-2012

Bill suffered one of the worst bad beats we’ve seen at Card Night.

The game was Stud 8.  On the river there were three players left: Bill, Paul, and Jason.

Bill looked down at his cards.  He had 6-5-4-3-2.  The kind of hand you dream of in Stud 8.  A straight, and a 6-high low.  A hand you can scoop with.

Bill bet and raised as much as he could.  Then came showdown.  Bill showed his hand.

Unfortunately, Paul had made a bigger straight.  Oh, well.  That happens.  At least Bill still had his 6-high.

Then Jason turned over his hand: 6-4-3-2-A.  A lower 6-high.

Bill went from a possible scoop to winning nothing.

He did have some consolation, though, as he was the big winner for the night.

Mark D +$5.00
Paul ‑$53.00
Bill +$137.00
Jeff ‑$86.00
Jason ‑$92.00
Glen +$101.00

Jackpot is now $37.00.

Card Night 23-Aug-2012

Mary called a round of Omaha Hi-Lo with a single joker in the deck.  The joker was completely wild for low.  For high, the joker could be used as an ace, or to complete a straight, a flush, or a straight flush.

On two of the hands, Mary made the steel wheel (an ace-through-5 straight flush) using the joker on the board.

Bill had his second worst card night ever, dropping $208.00.  (His worst Card Night was back on 22-Sep-2011 when he lost $227.00.)  Bill now joins Paul as the only players to have lost over $200 on more than one Card Night.

Tonight marked the eighth Card Night in a row that Mike Stefanidis failed to attend.  That’s a new personal record.

Mark D ‑$16.00
Mary +$109.00
Paul +$111.00
Phil ‑$74.00
Bill ‑$208.00
Jeff ‑$73.00
Jason +$30.00
Glen +$104.00

Jackpot is now $49.00.

Card Night 14-Aug-2012

There were a lot of kill pots tonight, resulting in some big wins and big losses.

Mary was the big winner.  On a round of Four-Three, five hands were dealt before the game ended, and Mary won half the pot on all five hands.  (She never looked at her cards before declaring she was in.)

Paul got off to a huge start, turning his $20.00 buy-in into around $150.00.  Then the cards just slowly chipped away at his stack, and he ended up with a modest $5.00 win.

Phil had his third worst Card Night ever, dropping $164.00.  So for the third week in a row, Phil and Paul swap places for best and second-best on the year.  (Paul: +$431.00.  Phil: +$361.00)

Jason had his worst Card Night ever, losing $181.00.  It was his sixth losing Card Night in a row, a new personal record.  With this loss, Jason is now down for the year (-$153.00) and down for Card Night overall (-$50.00).

Mark D +$118.00
Mary +$132.00
Paul +$5.00
Phil ‑$164.00
Bill ‑$50.00
Jeff +$31.00
Lyndon +$22.00
Jason ‑$181.00
Glen +$72.00

Jackpot is now $32.00.

Card Night 07-Aug-2012

On a hand of Omaha Hi-Lo, the flop came J♠-A♠-9♥.  Jason bet.  Mark DeVol, to his immediate left, raised.  Glen, Phil, and Jeff all folded.  Paul thought long and hard before finally, grudgingly folding.  Mary called.  Lyndon folded.

Jason re-raised, and Mark and Mary called.

The turn was the K♠.  Jason checked.  Mark bet, and Mary and Jason called.

The river was the 7♦.  Jason checked, Mark bet, Mary folded, and Jason called.

Mark turned over 3♠-2♠-x-x for the worst possible flush.  (Jason had flopped trip aces and never improved.)

It was a kill ($4-$8) so Mark scooped a big pot, to the dismay of the other players.  “He raised on the flop and won with the worst flush?”  Paul was especially upset, because he would have made the nut flush with his Q♠-6♠.

Paul was having a very bad night, having bought in for $180.00 and about to buy more.  Then he called $3-$6 Texas Hold ’em as the last game of the night.

In typical Paul fashion, he won seven of the eight hands he dealt, turning a potential $200 loss into a more palatable $71 loss (although he was still the big loser for the night).

On one of the hands, he got a bit of revenge against Mark:

The flop was K-10-4.  Paul had K-7 down, Mark had 10-10.

Paul bet, Mark raised, and Paul called.

The turn was another king.  Paul checked, Mark bet, and Paul called.

The river was Paul’s three-outer: a 7.  Paul now had kings full, while Mark had 10s full.  Paul bet, Mark called, and Paul scooped a big pot.

Phil won tonight, and Paul lost.  That puts Phil back on top for the year, up $525.00.

Mark D ‑$46.00
Mary ‑$17.00
Paul ‑$71.00
Phil +$41.00
Jeff +$25.00
Lyndon +$32.00
Jason ‑$55.00
Glen +$87.00

Jackpot is now $17.00.
