39 times in Card Night history, a single player has won jackpot two or more times on the same night.  (Mary holds the record, having done it nine times.)

Last night Mike Stefanidis won two jackpots, the seventh time he’s done that on the same night.  He made a straight flush in Apollo and four 6s in Omaha Hi-Lo for a total of $60.50 in jackpot winnings.

Mike won $3.00 total for the night (the $3.00 he won from the 25-cent showdown at the end).

Card Night 24-May-2016

On a hand of Omaha Hi-Lo, Bill was surprised when he looked down at four jacks.  Before showing his hand to the table, he asked, “Should I just flip them up now?”

But Bill was about to get some bad news.  In order to win jackpot in most games (including Omaha), the straight flush or four of a kind must be made within the rules of the game.  When a player is dealt four of a kind as his down cards in Omaha, he cannot make four of a kind within the game.

So, although the chances of being dealt four of a kind on only four cards is 1 in 20,825, Bill did not win jackpot.

He was not happy.

If you’re gonna win jackpot on a hand of Baseball, you’d prefer to do it with four 3s or four 9s.  In a game like baseball, you could end up with a natural four of a kind but lose the hand!  At least with four wild cards you’re guaranteed a five of a kind.

Mark DeVol got the preferred hand.  Four 9s (three of them down cards) won him jackpot, and his five 8s won the hand.  (Until he got his final 9 on the river, Mary had him beat with four 10s.)

On a hand of Bingo, Jerry got rid of all his cards after only six cards had been revealed on the board.  It’s the quickest anyone has ever Bingo’ed since we started playing the game.

Card Night 03-May-2016

Jeff called a game with elements of Anaconda and Pass the Trash.

After an ante, each player is dealt seven cards down.  He looks at his cards, and then passes three of his cards to the player on his left.  He discards two of his cards, leaving him with five.

Each player flips over a card of his choosing.  A betting round starts with the player showing the highest card.

Each player flips over another card of his choosing.  (It can be any one of the four cards he has down.  In other words, he doesn’t have to flip the cards in the order in which he originally arranged them.)  There is another betting round starting with the player showing the best hand.

This continues until four cards are revealed and there is a final betting round.  The pot is split between the best high hand and the best low hand.  (There is no declaring high or low, and there are no qualification requirements for the low hand.)

We played it $3-$6 ($3 on the first two betting rounds, $6 on the last two), and it proved to be a popular game.  Jerry, having lost quite a bit, suggested we call the game Jerry’s Ball Sack.
