Card Night 27-May-2014

John called No-Limit, Five-Card Draw, Deuces Wild.  No-limit!  We haven’t played any kind of no-limit game in some time.

The trick was determining how best to protect one’s hand.  For example, if you were dealt a straight, what was your best bet before the draw?  (Pat straights lost several times when opponents drew to full houses and fours of a kind.  Deuces wild!)

Nobody lost too much on the game, but there was a fair amount of money exchanged.  We ended up playing three rounds of it.

John was also the big winner tonight, posting his best Card Night ever (+$164.00).  Previously his best Card Night was on 01-May-2007 when he won $130.00.

Card Night 20-May-2014

Lyndon introduced a new game tonight called Five and Two.  It’s a blind game with three structured betting rounds: $2-$4-$4.

After the blinds are posted, each player is dealt three cards down, followed by a betting round.

Each player still in the hand is dealt another card down, and one community card is dealt up.  There is a another betting round.

Each player still in the hand is dealt another card down, and a second community card is dealt up.  There is a final betting round.

Each player makes his/her best five-card poker hand by using zero or two of the community cards.  (A player cannot use just one of the community cards.)

We played the game high-low declare, and it played quite well.

Card Night 13-May-2014

Despite a wildfire bearing down on his home, Lyndon joined us for Cards tonight.  Thankfully, his house was spared.

Meanwhile, Jason was on fire himself.  Did he win at least a part of every pot tonight?

Card Night 06-May-2014

On a hand of Four-Three, Bill was dealt A-2-3-6, a great starting hand.  When it came time to deal the rest of the cards, Bill was up against Chris and Mary.

Bill was dealt 6-3-6 for a full house.  Not the result he was expecting, but a full house is a full house.

Chris was showing three queens when it was his turn to draw.  He drew a pair of 8s, giving him a bigger full house than Bill’s.  Now all Bill could hope for was to win low with a miserable 3-3-6-2-A.

But Mary drew to a 7-high for the low.

So, Bill started with what looked like a shoo-in for low, instead drew to a shoo-in full house, and ended up losing.
