Card Night 31-Mar-2009

Paul was up about twenty or thirty dollars a little after 9:00.  He was having a pretty good night.  Then he got four kings in Omaha Hi-Lo, and things really took off for him.  He ended up winning $136.00.

Mike tried a new technique where he raised like crazy.  It didn’t work too well for him as he lost $60.00.

Glenn is still on fire: He’s won seven Card Nights in a row.

Mark DeVol now single-handedly holds the record for longest streak without missing a Card Night: 154

Mark D ‑$52.00
Mary ‑$72.00
Paul +$136.00
Lyndon +$25.00
Mike S ‑$60.00
Glen +$24.00

Card Night 24-Mar-2009

Card Night is streaky.

Glen now has won six Card Nights in a row.  Regulars like Warren, Ike, and Mark Huyser have never accomplished that feat.

Meanwhile, Lyndon’s hot streak is definitely over.  His losses now stand at four Card Nights in a row.  He is 4-5 for the year, although he’s still up $135, thanks in large part to a $144 winning night back in January.

Mark DeVol attended his 153rd Card Night in a row tonight.   (It probably helps that he hosts virtually every game now.)  That ties Mark Huyser’s record from 20-May-2002 through 21-Jun-2005.

Nearly three months into the year and only two players have winning records: Bill (7-0) and Glen (7-3).  However, three other players are ahead for the year money-wise (thanks to some big individuals nights), even though they have losing records: Mark D (6-7, +$101), Paul (5-7, +$239), and Lyndon (4-5, +$135).

As we all know, the best hand pre-flop doesn’t always win.

Tonight, during a game of Happy Pineapple (aka Crazy Pineapple Hi-Lo Declare), Glen was dealt A-A-2.  After the flop counterfeited his deuce, he discarded it and kept the aces.  Then the turn put a pair of jacks on the board.  Although disappointed, Glen wisely folded.

Mark D ‑$20.00
Mary ‑$47.00
Paul +$78.00
Phil ‑$9.00
John ‑$20.00
Lyndon ‑$11.00
Glen +$24.00

Card Night 10-Mar-2009

Glen had a huge night, taking home $127.00.  It was his fourth Card Night win in a row, and it catapults him into second place for 2009.  In fact, he’s now ahead for all his Card Night appearances: +$20.00.

The current leader for the year is still Bill.  Will he ever lose?  He’s 7-0 and up $395.00 for 2009.  (Two jackpot payouts tonight contributed to a $48.00 win.)

Meanwhile, it appears that Lyndon is finally starting to cool off.  Tonight was his third Card Night loss in a row (although he’s still up $146.00 for the year and $339.00 for his last ten Card Nights).  Tonight’s loss was compounded by a mistake he made on a hand of Omaha Hi-Lo.  The final board had at least four low cards, something like J-7-6-2-A.  Phil turned over his hand, and Mark DeVol announced, “Phil’s got the nut flush for high, and a pretty good low [with A-4].”  Lyndon mucked his hand, stating that he had had A-3.  Both Phil and Lyndon had counterfeited aces, but Lyndon didn’t realize since the board had four low cards, his 3 beat Phil’s 4 for low.  But Lyndon had already mucked, so Phil scooped the pot.  It’s like Mark has said 91 times: “Never muck your hand in Omaha.”

Mark D ‑$10.00

Paul ‑$42.00
Phil +$4.00

Card Night 03-Mar-2009

Tonight ended with an odd set of results.  Three out of the six players either won or lost exactly one dollar.  Paul was the only significant loser, dropping $48.00.  Mark DeVol won $10.00, and Phil was the big winner of the night, taking home $33.00.

Only $49.00 was exchanged between winners and losers, same as Card Night one month ago.

Phil won the showdown we play at the end of the night for all the extra quarters.  He claimed it was the first time he’s ever won.  (Highly doubtful, considering he’s attended 61 Card Nights.)

Mark D +$10.00
Mary +$1.00
Paul ‑$48.00
Phil +$33.00
Bill +$1.00
Lyndon ‑$1.00
