Card Night 29-May-2007

Even with the recent Omaha jackpot rule change, four jackpots were won tonight.  And had the new rule not been implemented, there would have been six jackpots won, setting a new single-night record!

Mark D +$20.00
Mary ‑$31.00
Mark H +$36.00
Paul ‑$43.00
Warren ‑$25.00
Mike S +$69.00

Card Night 22-May-2007

The responses were a unanimous “yes” to the proposed jackpot rule change for Omaha.  So, from now on, the four-of-a-kind jackpot can be won in Omaha only when two cards of the four-of-a-kind are in a the player’s hand, and the other two are on the board.

The following players refused to cast a vote in the matter:

Frank
Mark Huyser
Paul
Warren
Mike Stefanidis

During Card Night tonight, Mike and Paul were speculating as to the worst defeat in NBA history.  According to a Web poster citing ESPN The Magazine, it occurred on December 17, 1991:

Cleveland Cavaliers 148
Miami Heat 80

Some other interesting “worst defeats”:

The worst loss in NCAA Football history was October 7, 1916:

Georgia Tech 222
Cumberland 0

The worst loss in NCAA Basketball history was February 18, 1989:

Louisiana Tech 126
Texas Pan-American 25

The worst loss in NFL history was December 8, 1940:

Chicago Bears 73
Washington Redskins 0

Mark D ‑$16.00
Mary ‑$42.00
Mark H ‑$57.00
Paul +$126.00
Warren ‑$27.00
Bill ‑$50.00

Jackpot Rule Change?

So, it’s no secret that since we’ve been playing Omaha regularly, the frequency of jackpot wins has gone up dramatically, resulting in smaller jackpot wins in general. Gone are the days of jackpot reaching $100.00 or more.

I propose that we change the jackpot rules so that in the case of Omaha, a player can only win the four-of-a-kind jackpot if he’s playing two of the four-of-a-kind in his hand and the other two from the board. This would eliminate jackpot wins on those times where three of the four-of-a-kind are on the board and only one is in the player’s hand.

Fewer jackpot wins, bigger jackpot payouts.

What do people think?

Card Night 01-May-2007

A lot of the regular players were AWOL tonight, so it was nice that John was able to make it.  Although Paul and Mary might disagree.

John’s night started out rough after losing some big pots.  In one hand of Texas Hold ’em, John had 7s full of aces on the turn, only to lose on the river when Bill hit a two-outer to make kings full of 7s.

John was in for sixty bucks when Bill called Buck ’em.

The pot got up to almost forty dollars when John got his big hand.  He went head-to-head with Mary once and Paul twice, beating them each time.  On that round alone he made over $100.  Then two rounds later, he ended up winning the game!

The rich got richer when it came around to Bill’s deal again and he called Chase the Ace.  John took down that game as well; in fact, he never lost a single round!  All three of his two-dollar stacks were in front of him when he scooped the pot.

John, you’re welcome back anytime!

Mark D ‑$22.00
Mary ‑$59.00
Paul ‑$106.00
Bill +$51.00
John +$130.00
