Card Night 25-Aug-2015

Tonight Jason called $3-$6 Omaha Hi-Lo with a full kill.  You heard me.  And of the seven hands he dealt, six of them were a kill.  So we were essentially playing $6-$12 Omaha Hi-Lo!  And yes, on one of the large-bet betting rounds on one of the hands, the betting was maxed out, meaning it was $48 on that round for players to stay in.

What’s happening to us?

Jackpot isn’t being won as much any more thanks to some of the new games we’ve been playing.  Bingo and Badugi in particular aren’t games that lend themselves to jackpot wins, plus they take a long time to play.  We might have to change our jackpot rules to accommodate the games we now play.

Card Night 18-Aug-2015

There were a lot of bad beats tonight: flushes over straights, full houses over flushes, etc.  Even in Stud 8: Jeff and Glen both had a 6-high straight, but Jeff also had a 7-high straight.  Jeff won 3/4 of the pot, while Glen had to settle for 1/4 of the pot with what would normally be a great hand.

Mark DeVol called a new game tonight: Razzdugi.  It was Seven-Card Stud where the best Razz hand split the pot with the best Badugi hand.  This game may actually catch on.

Card Night 11-Aug-2015

It was a wild night, with huge pots being won and lost.  We ran out of poker chips, so when players needed to rebuy, they had to buy their chips from other players.  Luckily all the accounting at the end of the night worked out perfectly.

$491.00 was exchanged between winners and losers, a new Card Night record.

Mark DeVol called Badugi, a game we haven’t played in some time.  It proved to be fairly popular, enough so that Bill called it again when it was his turn to deal.  (Mark has promised to call a Badugi variant in the near future.)

A rare Thursday Card Night turned out to be unremarkable.  Well, Jerry had his worst night ever, but he’s only attended five times.  And we talked about the Fantasy Football league that Jason is putting together.  And we watched the Republican presidential debate.  Overall unremarkable.
