Card Night 27-Apr-2010

Mike left a little early tonight because he said he felt like he was going to throw up.  However, that didn’t stop him from telling a scatalogically disgusting story before he left.  We all wanted to throw up.

Mark D ‑$5.00
Mary ‑$67.00
Paul ‑$31.00
Phil +$115.00
Bill ‑$62.00

Card Night 20-Apr-2010

Bill was up and down all night.  He initially had to buy in for $80.00, then he made all his money back, then he lost it all and had to buy in for another $10.00.  He finished the night down $69.00.

Once again it was Bill’s turn to deal at the end of the night when it came to showdown for the leftover quarters.  And once again he announced that he would be dealing a single card to each player.  (This time, the low card would win the pot.)

And once again Paul was not happy with this decision, and he let everyone know it.

And once again Paul won the pot, this time with a deuce.

Mark D ‑$20.00
Paul +$49.00
Phil +$3.00
Bill ‑$69.00
Mike S +$4.00
Glen +$13.00

Card Night 13-Apr-2010

Despite having a full table of eight players tonight, and despite five of those players ultimately buying in for sixty dollars, the results were very tame.  It seemed like all the players who were winning big gradually gave their winnings back.  Only $88.00 was exchanged between winners and losers.

Phil was the big winner taking home $28.00.  It’s the smallest “biggest win” since Glen won $21.00 back on January 26.  Before that you have to go back to February 5, 2009, when Lyndon won $26.00.

Warren played his usual passive style tonight; however he did show a lot of aggression on a hand of Razz.  Of course it didn’t hurt that he had the nuts.  (When his final hole card was dealt to him, he announced to the table, “I don’t need it.”)

He tabled the wheel.

It was Bill’s turn to deal at the end of the night when it came to showdown for the leftover quarters.  It was a pretty good pot: $5.00.

Bill announced that whoever got the high card would win the pot.  It might not be a very interesting way to deal showdown, but it’s quick, simple, efficient, and it’s no more nor less random than any other way.

Paul was not happy with this decision, and he let everyone know it.

Then Paul won the pot with an ace.

Mark D +$24.00
Mary ‑$19.00
Paul +$10.00
Warren ‑$34.00
Phil +$28.00
Bill +$11.00
Jason ‑$7.00
Glen ‑$28.00

Card Night 05-Apr-2010

For the fifth time this year, a player had his best Card Night ever.  Tonight it was Mark DeVol’s turn, posting a huge $181.00 win.  It was the fifth biggest Card Night win of all time and beat Mark’s previous personal best by $41.00.

Tonight also marked the second time in Card Night history that two players won $100 or more (Mark and Jason) while two other players lost $100 or more (Mary and Paul).  The last time it happened was on January 2, 2009, when we played on a Friday and the game went past midnight.

Tonight we played a little longer than normal because we started the game around 6:45 p.m.  (Everyone showed up early to watch the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship.)  However, the big money swings were probably due to a lot of $2-$4 games being called (both Hold ’em and Omaha) as opposed to the length of time we played.

Early in the night, Mike was debating whether to call or fold on the turn in a hand of Omaha Hi-Lo.  He had a few draws, but even if he made one of them, he ran the risk of losing to a better hand.  Mark (who was out of the hand) was looking over Mike’s shoulder as he finally called, and the river gave him the second-nut low.

Paul announced that he had two pair for high, and Mike and Mary looked at each others’ hands and saw that they would be splitting the low.  As the pot was being divided, Mike and Mark were discussing at length the merits of Mike’s call on the turn.  As the high half of the pot was being shipped to Paul, Paul grabbed the stack of chips and slammed them down in front of Mike, declaring, “You’re an idiot.”

Mike had rivered a straight, and Paul was the only one who noticed.

What promised to be a blow-out turned out to be one of the best NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships in history.  Underdog Butler kept the game close the whole time, and had two big opportunities to win the game at the end, but Duke was able to hold them off and win by two.

Congratulations to Mary, who drew Duke in our tournament pool and ended up with a $24.00 net win.  Also congrats to Warren, who drew Butler, and ended up ahead $18.00.

Mark D +$181.00
Mary ‑$138.00
Paul ‑$100.00
Phil ‑$54.00
Jason +$113.00
Mike S ‑$35.00
Glen +$25.00
