Card Night 30-Sep-2014

It was a merry-go-round tonight as players came and went and moved seats.  We had nine players overall, although there were never more than eight at the table at any given time.

We played two rounds of Low Holey, High Chicago, where each player’s lowest down-card was wild, and the player with the highest spade down split the pot with the player with the best poker hand.  It was a game we played quite a bit in the ’90s, and it turned out to be a bloodbath for some, as great hands were beaten by even greater hands and high spades weren’t high enough.

We also got to enjoy one of the greatest Major League Baseball post-season games of all time as the Kansas City Royals beat the Oakland A’s in twelve innings.

Mark D +$1.00
Mary ‑$65.00
Bill +$113.00
Chris +$102.00
Jeff ‑$40.00
Lyndon ‑$19.00
Mark P ‑$92.00
Jason +$6.00
Glen +$7.00

Jackpot is now $24.00.

Card Night 23-Sep-2014

We played Low-Holey several times tonight.  That’s Seven-Card Stud where each player’s lowest down-card and all others of the same rank are wild for him.  There were only five of us, but the game resulted in some huge hands, including several straight flushes that beat fours-of-a-kind.

Mark D ‑$83.00
Bill +$41.00
Chris +$68.00
Jeff +$36.00
Jason ‑$80.00

Jackpot is now $37.00.

Card Night 16-Sep-2014

On a hand of $3-$6 Stud 8, Jason completed with a 9 showing.  A 9?  He must have had trips, right?

Miguel, Jeff, and Mary made the call.

Fourth street gave Mary a pair of queens showing.  She bet.  Jason raised, and everyone called.

Fifth street gave Mary a third queen.  She bet.  Jason raised her again.  Jason didn’t have any kind of low showing, so it looked like he had three queens beat.  Maybe he already had a full house.  Miguel called; he looked like he had a flush or a straight.  Jeff re-raised; he was the only one that looked low.  Mary called.  Jason re-raised.  Miguel called.  Jeff capped it.  Everyone called.

Sixth street didn’t seem to change anything.  Jason and Jeff bet and raised each other until it was capped, with Miguel and Mary calling along the way.

The river came.  Mary checked.  Jason bet.  Miguel called.  Jeff raised.  Mary finally folded; she hadn’t improved to a full house or quads, and she knew she was beat by either a full house from Jason or a flush from Miguel.  Jason and Jeff capped it again, with Miguel calling.

Jason tabled a full house for high and Jeff tabled a 6-high for low.  Miguel did indeed have a flush that he wasn’t able to let go.

The pot totaled $295.00, with Jason and Jeff each getting $147.50.  It’s possibly the largest single pot in Card Night history.

Miguel suffered his worst Card Night ever (-$188.00), thanks in a large part to the Stud 8 hand above.  Previously his worst night had been on 11-Aug-2011 when he lost $82.00.

Mark D +$139.00
Mary ‑$69.00
Chris +$112.00
Jeff +$34.00
Jason +$16.00
Miguel ‑$188.00
Glen ‑$59.00

Jackpot is now $19.00.

Card Night 02-Sep-2014

The talk this year has been about the incredible run Bill is on.  He had over $1,000.00 in 2014 winnings in mid April, and by the beginning of August he was up over $1,400.00.

But quietly and slowly creeping up behind him was Mark DeVol.  And now, after a rough few weeks for Bill and a surge from Mark, Mark is now the 2014 leader (+$1,222.00).

What will the rest of the year hold?

Mark D +$141.00
Mary ‑$23.00
Bill ‑$149.00
Chris ‑$44.00
Jeff +$235.00
Lyndon ‑$42.00
Jason ‑$147.00
Glen +$23.00

Jackpot is now $6.00.
