Card Night 29-Sep-2015

Jason has been trying to come up with a Badugi hybrid that’s both fun and playable, and it looks like he’s finally come up with a winner: Studugi.  It’s Seven-Card Stud where the best poker hand splits the pot with the best Badugi hand.  (In order to win the Badugi half of the pot, a player must have a four-card Badugi.)  Looks like we’ll be playing it more in the future.

Mark D ‑$61.00
Mary ‑$102.00
Bill +$12.00
Jeff ‑$11.00
Jason ‑$44.00
Miguel +$195.00
Glen ‑$2.00

Jackpot is now $44.00.

Hmm. What to talk about?

Well, we had a full table of eight players tonight, making it two weeks in a row.  That hasn’t happened since December of last year.

The most consecutive weeks we’ve had a full table is six weeks, which happened back in 2010.

Bill ‑$79.00
Chris ‑$78.00

Card Night 15-Sep-2015

At showdown on a hand of Bingo, Mary had five cards remaining, and Jason and Jerry each had four.  It was time to declare and…everybody went low!  Jason scooped a nice pot.

On another Bingo hand, Bill declared high, and Chris and Jason each declared low.  Jason had a better low than Chris, so the pot looked like it was going to be split between Jason and Bill.  But then Chris noticed that Bill had an ace in his hand…and an ace had appeared earlier on the board!  Bill had failed to discard it.  Jason scooped another nice pot.

On a hand of Texas Hold ’em, Glen raised preflop.  Chris in the big blind was the only caller.

The flop came 10-6-2 rainbow.  Chris checked, Glen bet, and Chris called.

The turn was a 9.  Chris checked, Glen bet, and Chris raised.  Then Glen reraised!  What?  What could Glen possibly have that made him raise preflop and then get aggressive on a crappy board like 10-6-2-9?  Chris capped the betting.

The river was a blank and the betting was capped once again.  Both Chris and Glen turned over 7-8 for 10-high straights.  Glen had raised preflop with 7-8 offsuit!  Tricky!

Chris won a $53.75 jackpot with four 7s (Stud 8) on the very first hand of the night.  Jeff later won $52.25 when he made a king-high straight flush in Omaha Hi-Lo.

Jackpot is now just $17.00.

Jerry ‑$23.00
Mark D +$168.00
Mary ‑$165.00
Bill +$57.00
Chris +$9.00
Jeff +$50.00
Jason ‑$82.00
Glen +$76.00

Jackpot is now $17.00.

Card Night 08-Sep-2015

At showdown on a hand of Bingo, Jeff had two cards left.  Jerry, Mary, and Jason each had one card left.

All four players declared high!

It turns out Jerry, Mary, and Jason each had a face card and figured they had no chance of winning low.  However, as Mary pointed out later, if they’d been paying attention, the lowest total Jeff (with his two cards) could have was 14, based on all the cards that had been discarded.  So each of the players with one card should have declared low (even though they each had a face card) because Jeff was definitely going to declare high with a total of 14 or higher.

Anyway, Jeff scooped a huge pot.

Jerry ‑$60.00
Mark D ‑$67.00
Mary ‑$71.00
Chris +$114.00
Jeff +$165.00
Jason ‑$122.00
Glen +$20.00

Jackpot is now $107.00.

Card Night 01-Sep-2015

Jeff was the “big” loser tonight dropping $38.00.  It’s the smallest amount the biggest loser of the night has lost since 10-Jun-2014 when Chris lost $27.00.

The big winner of the night was Bill.  In fact he was the only winner of the night, taking home $86.00 of everyone else’s money.

For the stakes we’ve been playing lately, it surprising the wins and losses were so minor.  (Neither Jerry nor Mary attended tonight.  Hmm.)

Jason is intent on developing a Badugi hybrid that plays as well as Razzdugi.  Tonight he called Omadugi (Badomaha?) where the high Omaha hand split with the best Badugi hand.  The difficulty came at showdown when everyone tried to figure out what Badugi hand they were playing.  With so many community cards it was a challenge.

Mark D ‑$26.00
Bill +$86.00
Chris ‑$16.00
Jeff ‑$38.00
Jason ‑$3.00
Glen ‑$20.00

Jackpot is now $86.00.
