Jason has been trying to come up with a Badugi hybrid that’s both fun and playable, and it looks like he’s finally come up with a winner: Studugi. It’s Seven-Card Stud where the best poker hand splits the pot with the best Badugi hand. (In order to win the Badugi half of the pot, a player must have a four-card Badugi.) Looks like we’ll be playing it more in the future.

Stud-dugi has the best of both worlds… you can still play for high while making a 4-card Badugi that is not constrained by the “8 or lower” rule. You can even win with a J-high badugi, like I did. As long as there are no lower badugis out in the field.
Better than Stud-8. Twice the fun.
