We replaced the poker table we’ve been playing on for about 15 years with one that Jeff brought from his home. He’d been using it as a kitchen table, but it had gotten very little card play. It’s a nice upgrade from our old table, with a big cushy felt and a comfortable feel to it.
The new table seemed to suit Mark DeVol, as he went on to his second best Card Night ever: +$175.00. (His best Card Night was when he won $181.00 on 05-Apr-2010.)
With this big win, Mark now overtakes Paul as the all-time Card Night money winner.
Paul called a round of Buck ’em with no joker in the deck. As Paul was dealing the first hand, Mark told the group that without the joker, everyone should have no trouble reading their hands. Then he added, “Just remember: If you’re dealt three deuces to start with, that’s not a very good hand. At least not until the three-cards-out-of-five round.”
Mary looked down at her cards and had to bite her tongue as she saw three deuces!
Sure enough, she passed on the two-cards-out-of-three round. Then she went high on the three-cards-out-of-five round. And on the five-cards-out-of-seven round, she ended up with quads for a $14.75 jackpot win!
During a round of Four-Three, Jeff was dealt 7-7-5-5. He opted to play, but ended up losing. Most of the group agreed that it was a good hand to play, because it was already a made high hand, and it could potentially make a good low hand as well. Or it could improve to a full house. Jeff just got unlucky.
Later, Jeff once again was dealt 7-7-5-5. Again he opted to play, but again he ended up losing.
Maybe the hand’s not as good as we all thought.
