Card Night 28-Mar-2012

After more than one thousand Card Nights spanning more than twenty years, Mark DeVol finally lost over $100.00.

There was no big hand that did him in.  In fact, the other players didn’t even notice he was losing so much.

No doubt the bigger stakes that we’ve been playing had a big role in his demise.  The myriad $2-$4 full kill games gradually chipped away at his stack.

In a strange coincidence, it was the 100th time in recorded Card Night history that a player has lost $100.00 or more on a single night.

Meanwhile, Mike Stefanidis just won’t stop.  He was down $100.00 before he came roaring back late in the evening to finish ahead $138.00.

Mark D ‑$105.00
Mary ‑$78.00
Paul ‑$3.00
Bill +$59.00
Jeff ‑$4.00
Mike S +$138.00

Jackpot is now $35.00.

Card Night 21-Mar-2012

Mike Stefanidis kept winning and winning and winning…

When the smoke had cleared, Mike had set a new Card Night record winning $271.00.  (Previously the record was held by Paul who won $256.00 back on 19-Feb-2008.)

It was silly the way Mike kept winning.  Here’s an example.

On a hand of Omaha Hi-Lo, the river put a pair of 8s on the board, with no low possible.  Jeff bet, Mike called, and everyone else folded.  Jeff and Mike both had trip 8s.  But Mike won the hand… when his 6 kicker beat Jeff’s 5 kicker.  A 6 kicker!

That’s how it went all night.

And it’s not like Mike wasn’t already on fire.  Tonight was his seventh win in a row, and he’s now up $529.00 for 2012.  No one in the history of Card Night has ever had that high of a year-to-date total in March.

There were only six players tonight, so with Mike’s big win, there were bound to be casualties.

Jeff bore the brunt of it, losing exactly $200.00.  Needless to say it was his worse loss ever (beating his previous loss of $138.00 on 23-Jun-2011).  It’s the second time this year a player has lost $200 or more (Paul lost $204.00 on February 23), and the sixth time it has ever happened overall.

With our new higher limits (we played a lot of $2-$4 games with full kills), these sorts of totals might become commonplace.

Mark D +$25.00
Mary +$10.00
Paul ‑$82.00
Jeff ‑$200.00
Mike S +$271.00
Glen ‑$45.00

Jackpot is now $42.00.

March Madness madness

A number 15 seed beating a number 2 seed twice in the same NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is amazing enough.  But what made it even more amazing in our pool this year is that in the first game Paul’s number 15 took out Warren’s number 2, and in the second game Warren’s number 15 took out Paul’s number 2!

PAUL   #15 Norfolk State 86
WARREN  #2 Missouri      84

WARREN #15 Lehigh        75
PAUL    #2 Duke          70

Sweet revenge!

Card Night 06-Mar-2012

Lyndon got back-to-back quads in Happy Pineapple.  He hit four 2s on one hand, then made four 10s on the very next hand.  No jackpot for him, though, as in both cases three of his cards were on the board.  (See the Pineapple jackpot rule.)

That didn’t mean we didn’t pay out any jackpot money tonight.  Phil won with four 8s in Omaha Hi-Lo.  Bill won with four aces in Stud 8 and with a jack-high straight flush in Omaha Hi-Lo.  (Good thing we’ve got that Pineapple jackpot rule, otherwise we would have paid out five times tonight.  Although I’m sure Lyndon doesn’t feel the same way.)

Tonight Paul Huyser attended his 154th Card Night in a row.  With that he passes his brother Mark Huyser who once attended 153 in a row.  (Mark DeVol currently holds the record with 180 in a row.)

Mark D ‑$36.00
Paul +$59.00
Phil ‑$67.00
Bill +$135.00
Lyndon ‑$57.00
Jason ‑$5.00
Glen +$18.00

Jackpot is now $6.00.
