Well, the horseshoe managed to find its way back up Paul’s ass. Big time.
This was a wild one, folks.
21st-Century records were being shattered left and right as Paul went on to a huge $256.00 win, eclipsing Mike Coyne’s long-standing single-night record of $240.00 set back on February 11, 2002.
Paul could seemingly do no wrong.
On an Omaha Hi-Lo flop of 5-7-5, Bill had a full house with his 7-5, unaware that Paul had hit a bigger one with 7-7. They both aggressively bet into the pot all the way to the river.
Later, during a round of Buck ’em, Paul declared high in early position, playing two cards out of three. When it got around to Mary in late position, she declared low. Paul apologized to her as he checked her off and beat her low for a large pot. He had been dealt A-A-2.
Paul ended up winning that Buck ’em game when he declared high playing three cards out of five. Bill almost called him, but thought better of it. Good thing for Bill, because Paul turned over trip 7s.
Paul won around $100.00 on that round of Buck ’em alone, which shows you how volatile that game is. A good or bad round can make the difference in your entire night, regardless of how good or bad your “real” poker play has been.
Bill’s luck in 2008 continues to run sour. He’s still looking for his first win, and he’s currently on a personal-worst six-session losing streak.
Mark Huyser started his night off well by winning the biggest jackpot payoff in over three years: $56.00 for his four 9s in Omaha Hi-Lo. He had the second-best win for the night behind Paul, taking home $92.00.
Mike Stefanidis also won jackpot with four 9s in Omaha Hi-Lo. However, his $30.75 payoff wasn’t enough to offset his losses. He went home down $48.00.
Mary’s woes started early when she accidentally declared high in Texas Hold ’em Hi-Lo Declare. She had a near-nut low, but inadvertently put two chips in her fist at showdown. She got “lucky” in that she was the only one to go high, so she took down half the pot. However, had she gone low as she’d planned, she would have scooped.
Unlucky situations like running into Paul’s aforementioned A-A-2 in Buck ’em only helped solidify Mary’s $185.00 loss for the night. It comes in as the second-worst night on record, behind Paul’s $215.00 thrashing back on January 28, 2002. (Yes, Paul now holds the records for both best night and worst night.)
During Mary’s descent, she started singing Bruce Springsteen’s I’m Goin’ Down. “I’m goin’ down, down, down, down. I’m goin’ down, down, down, down.” Mike then suggested that, as the only woman at the table, she probably shouldn’t be singing that. There was no double entendre until Mike brought it up.
In addition to being the big winner for the night, Paul is currently on a personal-best streak of consecutive Card Night’s attended: 93 and counting.
We also set the record for the most money exchanged in a single night: $394.00. There was so much money on the table that we ran out of chips! (Even so, Phil managed to break even for the night.)
Hey, next week could turn out to be even wilder. Warren is coming back.
