Card Night 30-Jan-2018

Bill was trying to decide what game to call, and Chris suggested Six-Card Texas Hold ’em.

The structure is like Hold ’em, but everyone is dealt six cards to start.  After the first betting round, players set their six cards into three separate two-card hands.  After the betting round on the flop, players must discard one of their two-card hands.  After the betting round on the turn, players must discard another one of their two-card hands, leaving them with just one two-card hand.  The game plays out just like regular Hold ’em.

Bill was right to go with Chris’s suggestion.  He got a straight flush on one of the hands and won an $81.50 jackpot.

 PLAYER   TONIGHT’S
 RESULT
 Bill  +$59.00
 Chris  +$85.00
 Glen  +$103.00
 Jeff  ‑$114.00
 Jerry  ‑$224.00
 Mark D  +$151.00

Jackpot is now $32.00.

Card Night 23-Jan-2018

Miguel called Hawaiian Punch tonight.  It plays like Bingo, except there are only five board cards instead of ten.  Cards are revealed one at a time, so there are the same number of betting rounds as in Bingo.

Hawaiian Punch is “better” than Bingo because there’s less chance of your hand getting messed up.

Hawaiian Punch is “worse” than Bingo because it’s harder to determine where you stand in the hand.

 PLAYER   TONIGHT’S
 RESULT
 Bill  ‑$18.00
 Glen  +$54.00
 Jeff  +$84.00
 Jerry  ‑$31.00
 Mark D  +$70.00
 Miguel  ‑$178.00

Jackpot is now $92.00.

Card Night 09-Jan-2018

Since we missed a week in December, Mark DeVol called two December games tonight:

  • Scrote ’em.  Plays like Texas Hold ’em, except each player is dealt five hole cards.  Before the flop, each player discards anywhere between zero and five of his/her cards.  At showdown, each player must play every single one of the hole cards he/she kept to make a five-card hand (using however many cards necessary from the board).
  • Pass the Buck, Hi-Lo Declare, Buy at the End, Down Card Wild.  As promised back on 05-Dec-2017.

Bill also called a game we’d never played before: Two-Two-One.  Plays like Omaha Hi-Lo where each player is dealt four hole cards.  The six community cards are displayed as a line of four cards (Line #1) and a line of two cards (Line #2).  Players make their best hand using exactly two of their hole cards, two cards from Line #1, and one card from Line #2.

 PLAYER   TONIGHT’S
 RESULT
 Bill  +$81.00
 Chris  +$132.00
 Glen  +$76.00
 Jeff  ‑$146.00
 Jerry  ‑$175.00
 Mark D  +$13.00

Jackpot is now $53.00.
