Card Night 25-Feb-2014

On a hand of Happy Omaha Hi-Lo (see the 21-Jan-2004 entry for a description of the game), it came down to Glen and Mary at the end.  After the final betting round, they both turned up their hands.  Glen announced he had a flush for high, while Mary announced she had the low.  The pot was split up, but just before the hands were mucked, Jeff chimed in, “Glen, you’ve got a straight flush.”  Sure enough, Glen had failed to notice he had a straight flush and thus was entitled to 75% of jackpot.  “No wonder I never win jackpot!” Glen exclaimed.  “I never notice that I’ve won!”

Card Night 19-Feb-2014

On an Omaha Hi-Lo flop of A♥–3♥–5♥, Jeff looked down in disbelief at his hole cards: 2♥–4♥-X-X.  He had flopped the steel wheel.  Jeff checked, Chris bet into him, and Jeff slowplayed by just calling.  The turn was a 10.  Chris bet again, and Jeff called.  The river was another 10, which wasn’t that great a card for Jeff unless Chris now had a full house.  Chris would be afraid of a full house if he didn’t have one himself, so Jeff wouldn’t get any more money out of him by trying a check raise.  Jeff finally led out with a bet, and sure enough Chris just called.  Jeff scooped the pot and collected a $33.50 jackpot.

Speaking of Chris, he’s the hot player right now.  He’s won for four Card Nights in a row (a personal record), and he’s won $476.00 for the last ten Card Nights he’s played.  In fact, he’s the only active player who has a positive win-loss record for the last ten Card Nights played.

Card Night 13-Feb-2014

Bill had a huge night (+$192.00) which is probably what prompted him to call a game with the biggest stakes we’ve ever played: $3.00-$6.00 Texas Hold ’em with a half kill.  Bill himself was usually the killer, meaning for a few hands we were playing $4.50-$9.00.  Dang!

Meanwhile Glen had his worst night ever dropping $141.00.  (Previously his worst night had been 20-Aug-2013 when he lost $132.00.)

Mary had great success with 2-7 Triple Draw tonight making the wheel (7-5-4-3-2) on two consecutive hands.  This, along with some luck on several other games, helped her post her first winning Card Night of the year.
