Card Night 15-Oct-2013

Most Card Night players bring their dinner along with them and eat it as we start to play.  Bill is no exception, and tonight he brought one of his favorites: A salad from a local bar with a delicious chipotle dressing.  However, when he opened up the Styrofoam box, he discovered that they had forgotten to include the dressing!

Mark DeVol ran upstairs and brought him some Caesar salad dressing.  Bill poured the dressing over the salad, closed the lid, and shook the box to toss the salad.

When he opened the box, there was the container of chipotle dressing.  It had been hidden under the lettuce.

Bill had been looking forward to the chipotle, so he poured that over the salad as well.

Afterwards, he wondered if maybe he should have just stuck with the Caesar.

But things weren’t all bad for Bill tonight.  He was the big winner, pocketing $78.00.  Plus, that puts him ahead for 2013 for the first time.  That’s quite an accomplishment considering at one point he was down $714.00 for the year!

Towards the end of the night, Glen was calling for jackpot.  “It’s coming!” he kept saying.

Then on a hand of Omaha Hi-Lo, the turn made the board 9♦-A♣-10♦Q♦.  Lyndon bet, and Glen called.  The river was another ace.  Lyndon bet.  Glen raised.  Lyndon made a reluctant call.

Glen flipped over J♦8♦ having turned the straight flush.  (Lyndon had a full house.)  Glen collected a $25.75 jackpot.

Mark D ‑$26.00
Bill +$78.00
Chris ‑$42.00
Jeff ‑$68.00
Lyndon ‑$3.00
Glen +$64.00

Jackpot is now $9.00.

Card Night 08-Oct-2013

Ah, the Card Night buffoonery.

On a hand of Omaha Hi-Lo, it came down to Bill, Jeff, and Mary at the end.

Bill bet, and Jeff and Mary called.

Bill turned over his hand.  “Trips,” he announced.  Mary and Jeff mucked their cards.

After a couple of seconds, though, someone noticed, “Bill, you don’t have trips.  You just have two pair.”

Bill looked down.  Sure enough, just two pair.  “Huh.  What was I thinking?”

Then Jeff announced, “Oh, I had a higher two pair than that!”

And, because we have a very friendly game, Bill told Jeff he could retrieve his hand from the muck.  Jeff did so, to reveal two pair lower than Bill’s.  Bill scooped the pot.

Ah, the Card Night buffoonery.

On a hand of Buck ’em, with the pot at $20.25, Mark DeVol looked down at his hand on the three-cards-out-of-five round to find three glorious kings.  When action got to him, he passed in hopes of dogging Bill who had gone in high on the previous two-cards-out-of-three round.  Sure enough, when action got to Bill he went in high.  Mark threw Bill his three kings and said, “Bill, you are not going to be happy about this.”

Bill sent Mark his three cards.  Three natural aces.

Mark D +$43.00
Mary +$81.00
Bill +$86.00
Chris ‑$93.00
Jeff +$58.00
Lyndon ‑$41.00
Glen ‑$119.00

Jackpot is now $12.00.

Card Night 01-Oct-2013

All night long, big hands were beaten by bigger hands.

Two in particular:

  • On a hand of Happy Pineapple (Crazy Pineapple Hi-Lo Declare), Chris had A♥-2♥ and ended up making the nut low and the nut flush.  He declared both ways, only to lose to Jason’s rivered full house.
  • On a hand of Omaha Hi-Lo, Glen turned the nut full house, aces full of jacks.  He slow-played it till the river waiting for Jason to bet.  Jason did indeed bet, so Glen raised him.  When Jason re-raised, Glen said, “Uh oh,” and called.  Jason turned over quad jacks.
Mark D +$45.00
Mary +$78.00
Chris +$17.00
Lyndon ‑$89.00
Jason ‑$21.00
Glen +$10.00

Jackpot is now $27.00.
