Card Night 28-Feb-2023

Jack won jackpot twice tonight (the first time he’s ever done that), but it was tempered by the fact that he actually lost one of the hands. Jack made a natural four-of-a-kind 5s in a hand of Follow the Queen, but he lost to Glen’s four 8s using wild cards.

We had the Kings/Jets game on TV in the background, and for some reason, we couldn’t hear the announcers. We could hear all the noises from the game, but not the announcers. There was no notice on the screen indicating they were having audio problems. There was no mention on Twitter of any other viewers having the same issue. Even after the game, when the anchors in Los Angeles were talking to one of the announcers in Winnipeg, we could only hear the anchors in L.A.! We never did figure out what was going on.

 PLAYER   TONIGHT’S
   RESULT
 Bill C  ‑$81.00
 Glen  +$124.00
 Jack  ‑$102.00
 Jerry  ‑$119.00

Jackpot is now $20.00.

Card Night 21-Feb-2023

Some No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw added a nice twist to the evening, although it didn’t produce any fireworks; any large bet resulted in the rest of the players folding.

A little 7-27 added some sloth to the evening with players pondering their hands for several minutes. We may limit the number of hands dealt from now on, although that’s still up to each dealer.

 PLAYER   TONIGHT’S
   RESULT
 Bill C  +$81.00
 Chris  ‑$69.00
 David D  ‑$53.00
 Glen  +$86.00
 Jeff  ‑$141.00
 Jerry  ‑$183.00
 Mark D  +$166.00
 Tyler Q  +$96.00
Jackpot is now $53.00.

Card Night 13-Feb-2023

Most of the details of this hand are just too complicated to list in a blog post. Suffice to say that Jeff misplayed a hand of Pass the Buck so egregiously that none of us could figure out what was going on. It included:

  • Passing a jack to Jerry, even though jacks were wild for Jeff
  • Keeping a king for no good reason
  • Only declaring low with the wheel, not realizing he also had the high hand with four aces
The punchline was that Jeff scooped the huge pot.

Glen had his worst Card Night ever, dropping $200. But to put that in perspective, there have been 79 times in Card Night history when a player has lost $200 or more. In fact, one of those times was tonight when Bill lost $259. That’s right: Glen had his worst Card Night ever and he still wasn’t the biggest loser on the night.

 PLAYER   TONIGHT’S
   RESULT
 Bill C  ‑$259.00
 Chris  +$211.00
 David D  +$48.00
 Glen  ‑$200.00
 Jeff  +$161.00
 Jerry  ‑$117.00
 Mark D  +$81.00
 Tyler Q  +$72.00
Jackpot is now $36.00.
