Card Night 26-Nov-2013

Miguel mixed it up tonight, calling Badugi, Construction, and Ty’s 7s.

Ty’s 7s struck a chord with Jason, and he called it twice when the deal came around to him.  But he put a couple twists on it.

On the first round, he called 3s wild instead of 7s.

On the second round, he declared no wild cards, and instead of the best three-of-a-kind splitting the pot with the best overall hand, he declared that the best three-card poker hand would split with the best five-card poker hand.  This didn’t play quite as well, because the same person usually ended up with the best three-card and five-card hands.

Mark D +$44.00
Mary +$46.00
Chris +$34.00
Lyndon +$13.00
Jason ‑$137.00
Miguel ‑$18.00

Jackpot is now $61.00.

Card Night 19-Nov-2013

When Bill sat down at the table tonight, there was $85.00 waiting for him at his seat.

“What’s this for?” he asked.

“It’s your winnings for the Football Pool.”

“I won the Pool?!”  He had no idea.

During a hand of 2-7 Triple Draw, four players were trying to win the pot: Mark DeVol, Lyndon, Chris, and Mary.

Mark controlled the betting up until the last draw, at which point Lyndon, who was first to act, suddenly bet out.  Lyndon’s not one to do something like that unless he’s got a great hand.  Chris folded, but Mary and Mark called.

Before any hands were revealed, Lyndon realized he’d made a mistake.  “I messed up,” he said.  He had forgotten that aces are high in 2-7.  He turned over A-6-4-3-2.  Mary had an 8-high.  Mark scooped the pot with a 7-high.

Mark D +$151.00
Mary ‑$118.00
Bill ‑$1.00
Chris ‑$95.00
Lyndon +$16.00
Jason ‑$129.00
Glen +$156.00

Jackpot is now $43.00.

Card Night 05-Nov-2013

Ty called Badugi tonight, a game we haven’t played in some time.

On one hand, it was heads-up between Lyndon and Jason.  Lyndon appeared to be in control of the hand, betting each time Jason checked.  However, on every draw, both Lyndon and Jason drew one card each.  After the final draw, Jason suddenly led out with a bet.  Lyndon folded his hand in disgust, assuming Jason had made a four-card Badugi.

It turned out Jason had actually drawn a bad card and just bet hoping Lyndon would fold.  The bluff worked.  It turns out that if Lyndon had called, Lyndon would have won with a better three-card Badugi.

Ty ‑$118.00
Mark D +$50.00
Mary +$32.00
Lyndon ‑$82.00
Jason +$123.00
Glen ‑$22.00

Jackpot is now $23.00.
