Paul suffered some frustrating bad beats tonight, including one with a big pot in Omaha Hi-Lo. Mark DeVol raised pre-flop from the small blind, and everyone called. Mike announced, “The flop will be 8, 9, 10.” The flop then came 8, 9, 10. Bill and Paul raised until the betting was capped. It was pretty clear they both had Q-J to complete the nut straight. Only Mary and Lyndon folded. The turn was a 6. Again, Bill and Paul raised until it was capped. Mark DeVol folded. So it was now Bill, Mark Huyser, Mike, and Paul to the river. Mike said, “Just pair the board.” The river paired the board with another 8. Paul cursed and slammed his cards down on the table. Mike bet; Paul and Bill called. Mike showed pocket 9s for a full house, beating Bill’s and Paul’s queen-high straights.
Mark Huyser won a big $42.50 jackpot with a 6-high straight flush in Omaha Hi-Lo. However, later in the night, Mark ended up betting everyone out of an Omaha Hi-Lo pot before the river, a river that would have given him a royal flush. Pretty amazing, when you consider how rarely the pot is awarded to someone in Omaha Hi-Lo before we get to the river. And in this case, there was even a possible low (despite the fact that Mark DeVol had announced there was not).
Lyndon finally won his first jackpot ever, after being shut out in his first 20 Card Nights attended.
And finally… Apparently Mike peed in Paul’s beer while Paul was in the bathroom, because when he got back to his seat, it was foamy and overflowing. Mike said Paul was just taking too long.
