Card Night 07-Apr-2008

Card Night was on Monday this week so we could watch the NCAA Men’s Basketball Finals.  In the pool, Paul had Kansas and Mike had Memphis.

Memphis was ahead by nine points with 2 minutes, 12 seconds left, but their poor free-throw shooting allowed Kansas to catch up and tie the game, sending it into overtime.  Kansas ultimately won 75-68.

(Mike complained that Memphis was the worst free-throw shooting team in all of men’s college basketball.  Although they were bad (61.4%, placing them in 329th place), the worst team was Washington (58.6%, 341st place).)

At showdown in a Texas Hold ’em hand, Paul didn’t realize he had a flush until his brother pointed it out to him.

Mark Huyser folded a winning A-3 for low in a Texas Hold ’em hand, forgetting that the game was Hi-Lo Declare.

During a hand of Pass the Buck Hi-Lo (with down-cards wild), Mary chose to keep a 7 that was dealt to her as her first card (making it look like she had a 7 down).  The last card dealt up to her was another 7.  However, when it came time to buy a card, she tossed one of the 7s, announcing “Psych!”

She lost the hand.

In a Texas Hold ’em Hi-Lo Declare hand, Warren flopped an ace-high flush.  Mark DeVol bet, and Warren just called.  Mary called as well.  The turn was a non-threatening low card.  Mark bet, and Warren raised.  Mary and Mark both called.  The river was another blank low card.  Mark checked, Warren bet, and Mary and Mark called.  When it came time to declare, Warren inadvertently went low, while Mark and Mary went high.  Mark won high with a queen-high flush, and Warren won low as the only low declaration.  Warren would have scooped if he’d gone high as he intended.

As the night went on, Mike was obviously tired, still sick with a cold, and losing.  He pretty much gave up on trying to play, folding the final Omaha Hi-Lo hand of the night without looking at his cards.
