Card Night 01-Apr-2008

The April Fools joke was on Mark DeVol and Paul, who sat by themselves watching the Padres game until 7:30, when a third player (Lyndon) finally showed up.

Mark Huyser limped in around 7:45.  And Mike, hacking and coughing, hobbled in some time after 8:00.  And those were the only players.

It wouldn’t be a five-player game for the entire rest of the night, however, as Mark Huyser took a quick beating for $66.00 and opted not to play for the final half hour.

There were a couple misreads of note.

In a Texas Hold ’em hand, Lyndon and Paul got to the river.  Lyndon bet, Paul raised, and Lyndon re-raised.  Then, Lyndon looked at the board and said, “Oh, no.”  He had failed to notice that there were four diamonds out there, and he had re-raised with just two pair.  Paul cut Lyndon some slack and didn’t re-raise again (or maybe he just didn’t re-raise because he’d run out of chips).  Paul then showed him pocket aces, one of which was the ace of diamonds for the nut flush.

Later, Mark Huyser and Paul were involved in another Texas Hold ’em hand.  Mark thought he had a straight, but ended up losing to Paul with just queen-high.

With just ten minutes left, it was Mike’s deal.  He said, “Okay, Buck ’em, and you have to put in $10.00 each deal.”  He wasn’t serious, of course, but he said that if he ever really did call that game, he’d refer to it as “F*!k ’em.”

Mark D +$53.00
Mark H ‑$66.00
Paul ‑$3.00
Lyndon +$26.00
Mike S ‑$2.00
