Card Night 01-Jul-2008

Tonight we welcomed a new player Nick.

As we watched the Padres lose to the Colorado Rockies to reclaim the worst record in the National League (in the shortest nine-inning game in Coors Field history, clocking in at 1 hour, 58 minutes), the conversation turned to losing streaks.  Here are some stats:

The Padres’ longest losing streak was 13 games, between May 8 and May 21, 1994.

The longest losing streak in Major League Baseball history was 24 games, set by the Cleveland Spiders between August 26 and September 16, 1899.

The longest losing streak in the modern era was 23 games, set by the Philadelphia Phillies between July 29 and August 20, 1961.

The longest losing streak to start a season was 21 games, set by the Baltimore Orioles in 1988.
