Card Night 22-Apr-2008

Many of our regulars were unable to make it tonight, so there was some question as to whether or not we would even play.  However, Warren and John came through, giving us a total of five players.  And then Mark Huyser, who had previously said he couldn’t make it, unexpectedly showed up a little after 8:00, rounding out the table nicely with six.

If anything could be said about our little group, it’s that players often don’t fold when they should.  However, tonight it was the opposite.  Players were folding when they should have at least called, especially on the river.  Time after time, players folded on the last betting round, then announced, “I would have won.”  Paul seemed to benefit the most from all this folding, although on one hand he himself folded the low end of a straight that would have given him half the pot.

Mark H, Warren, Lyndon and Paul all saw a flop in a hand of Texas Hold ’em that came 6-6-2.  Everyone checked.  The turn was another 2.  Everyone checked.  The river was another 6.  So now the board was 6-6-2-2-6.  Paul bet, Mark folded, Warren folded, and finally Lyndon folded.  Paul was only playing the board and scooped the pot.

John called Five-Card Draw, Deuces Wild each time he was the dealer.  It turned out to be Paul’s game as he won twice, both times with four of a kind.

John left early because he was quite tired.  It obviously affected his play, as on one hand of Texas Hold ’em Hi-Lo Declare he announced, “I’ve got a straight: 3-4-5-6.”
