Card Night 21-Feb-2017

When a 3 is dealt up in Baseball, the recipient needs to pay a predetermined fee to make it wild.  We currently play $3-$6 Baseball, and the fee to make a 3 wild is $3 on the first two betting rounds, and $6 and the second two betting rounds.

During a hand of Baseball tonight, Jerry received a 3 as his fourth card (second up-card).  He declined to pay to make it wild, planning on folding to any bet.  However, no one bet during this betting round, and Jerry was dealt another 3 as his fifth card.  This time he decided to pay the $6 to make it wild.  So now he had two 3s showing, one wild, and one not.

As showdown approached, only Jerry and Bill were left in the hand.  Bill looked pretty strong, showing a wild card himself.

On the river, Jerry got a 3 down (which was wild for free).  Bill made a bet.  Jerry looked at his hand.  He had two wild cards, but only had a flush.  (Had he paid to make his first 3 wild, he would have had four of a kind.)  He decided to call.

Despite how dangerous Bill looked, he only had a straight, and Jerry won the pot with his flush.
