Card Night 29-Apr-2014

Jason called Follow the Queen tonight with the following rules: Queens were also wild, and a player receiving the wild card following the queen had to pay $1.00 to make it wild.

As he dealt the game, rules had to be clarified.

“What if the player receiving the card after the queen doesn’t want to pay to make it wild?”  Jason wasn’t sure because it had never come up in his other home game before.  Finally Jason declared, “If the player doesn’t want to pay, the card isn’t wild for him, but cards of the same rank are wild for all other players.”  Okay.

The low card had to make the bring-in wager.  But what if the low card was also wild?  A long debate followed, after which Jason stated that the low card had to bring it in even if it was wild.

Later, after about the fifth deal, Jason stated that any player receiving a non-queen wild card had to pay $1.00 when it was dealt to him, whether or not the queen was the previous card dealt.  For example:

  • Chris gets a queen (no charge)
  • Mark gets a 3 (he has to pay $1.00 to make it wild)
  • Jeff gets a 6 (no charge)
  • Glen gets a 3 (he has to pay $1.00 to make it wild)

Previously, we were under the impression that only the player receiving the card following the queen had to pay.  (Everyone agreed, however, that if a player already had a card that subsequently became wild, he didn’t have to pay.)

Later in the evening, Mark DeVol called Follow the Queen without all the extra rules.

Mark D +$106.00
Mary ‑$36.00
Chris ‑$36.00
Jeff +$37.00
Lyndon ‑$37.00
Jason +$24.00
Glen ‑$37.00

Jackpot is now $22.00.
