Card Night 27-Nov-2012

Paul had a rough night.

At showdown on a hand of Omaha Hi-Lo, he turned over a small flush hoping to win the high half of the pot.  Paul breathed a sigh of relief when no one else showed a flush… until someone said, “Hey, Lyndon!  Are you still in the hand?”  Lyndon was busy watching the Lakers game on TV.  “Oh, yeah, sorry,” said Lyndon, as he turned over a king-high flush to beat Paul.

Later, during a hand of Happy Pineapple (Crazy Pineapple Hi-Lo Declare), Paul and Lyndon were the only two players left.  When it came time to reveal which way they were declaring, they both had two chips in their fists, indicating they were both declaring high.  Lyndon had the higher hand and scooped the pot.  Bill said, “Paul, weren’t you listening?  You could hear the two chips in Lyndon’s fist hitting each other when he brought his fist up from under the table!”

These events, along with a lot of second-best hands all night, resulted in Paul’s worst Card Night ever: -$219.00.  (Paul is the only player who has lost more than $200.00 on three different Card Nights.)

And Paul’s year isn’t going well either, particularly during the last two months.

He is now down $16.00 for 2012, and since 11-Sep-2012, he’s lost $721.00.  Paul has never lost that much money during any previous span in the history of Card Night.

Even more surprising, Paul is down $672.00 for the last ten times he’s attended Card Night.  No other player has ever lost that much over a ten-Card Night span.

On a hand of Happy Pineapple, it came down to Bill and Mary.  After the final betting round, Mary said, “Jackpot!” and turned over her cards to reveal a straight flush.  She had forgotten it was a Hi-Lo declare game.  (Bill, who had intended to go high with the nut flush, instead went low.)

Mark D +$134.00
Mary ‑$63.00
Paul ‑$219.00
Bill +$157.00
Jeff ‑$59.00
Lyndon +$31.00

Jackpot is now $28.00.
