Card Night 27-Jul-2010

What hath Paul wrought?

Seven weeks ago, Paul introduced a new game called Four-Three.  It was an incredibly simple game.  Players received four hole cards, and they decided whether they wanted to play those cards (along with three cards yet to be dealt) for the money in the pot.  Whoever got the highest hand would split the pot with whomever got the lowest hand, and all losers would have to match the pot for the next hand.

Tonight Bill called a round of Four-Three.

By the time the dust had settled, one player had his best Card Night ever, another had his worst, and $381.00 was exchanged between all winners and losers.

The pot started at its initial $7.75, quickly grew to around $38.00, then to around $77.00, then close to $154.00.

Paul took a beating early in the game, but made a big comeback when he scooped a ~$77.00 pot with the wheel.

Mary played all but one hand in the game.  She and Mike split the final pot of ~$154.00.

Phil and Jason bore most of the brunt of the game.  Bill actively participated and managed to emerge from the game relatively unharmed.

Mike Stefanidis had his best Card Night ever: +$215.00.  It was the third biggest Card Night win of all time, behind Paul (+$256.00, 19-Feb-2008) and Mike Coyne (+$240.00, 11-Feb-2002).

Mike is now the only player to have won over $200 twice.  (The other time was earlier this year on 09-Feb-2010: +$206.00)

Phil had his worst Card Night ever: -$262.00.  It was the worst Card Night loss of all time, beating Paul’s previous record of -$215.00 on 28-Jan-2002.  Those two losses are the only $200+ losses in Card Night history.

$381.00 was exchanged between winners and losers, the third highest exchange in Card Night history behind 02-Jan-2009 ($383.00) and 19-Feb-2008 ($394.00).

Tonight was the third time in Card Night history that two players won $100 or more while two other players lost $100 or more.

It was the first time in Card Night history that a player won $200 or more while another player lost $200 or more.

Despite all that volatility, Mark DeVol, Paul, Bill, and Lyndon had relatively unexceptional results for the night.  (Lyndon arrived after the round of Four-Three.)

Mark D +$18.00
Mary +$140.00
Paul ‑$5.00
Phil ‑$262.00
Bill ‑$1.00
Lyndon +$8.00
Jason ‑$106.00
Mike S +$215.00
